In Europe Diet Coke is called Coke Light. This stems from the fact that Americans, statistically, are more overweight compared to Europeans. People in the states diet so much, and there is such a wide and wacky consumer market for "dieting", that the word "diet" is almost a pop culture buzz word that kind of equals "fun" or "everyday life". But in Europe "diet" is considered a medical term - like "appendectomy", or something a doctor would prescribe for a health condition - and isn't something they would associate with a refreshing soft drink.
